Classes are held in Göztepe-Kuzey Campus.

In the Foreign Languages Education Department pedagogical content knowledge courses are taught in Turkish and area courses are taught in English.

The Foreign Languages Education Department offers French courses as a second foreign language.

There is a compulsory preparatory year. However, students who meet the following conditions may be exempted from preparatory education:

- Those who have been successful in the proficiency exam held by the School of Foreign Languages ​​in the last three years

- Those who have received a score at the level determined by the Senate from the national or international exams accepted by ÖSYM and YÖK, provided that they have been taken in the last three years (Click here for the equivalency table.)

- Those who have studied and completed at least the last three years of secondary education in a country where English is used as a mother tongue or an official language

For female students, Medeniyet Kız Yurdu, which has a capacity of 95 and is located in Kartal Soğanlık, is owned by our university and has been leased to a private company through a service procurement model. Within this framework, services are provided by the contracted company, and a 15% discount is offered to our students staying in the dormitory.

Our students can also benefit from scholarships provided by various private institutions.

Students who meet the necessary requirements to be exempt from the preparatory program may begin their studies in the department as irregular students in the second semester of the academic year.

A student who is newly enrolled in or already registered at the faculty may request exemption from courses they have previously taken and passed at another higher education institution. Students enrolling at the university for the first time must submit their course exemption or transfer requests to the Dean’s Office within five (5) working days from the date of registration. Students already enrolled at the university must submit their requests one week before the course registration week. Applications must include a petition, transcript, and detailed course descriptions of the successfully completed courses.

Students may request a leave of absence for up to four semesters in total, not exceeding two semesters at a time, due to health reasons, military service, education at domestic or international higher education institutions, financial or family circumstances. Students who fail to meet the graduation requirements by the end of the maximum study period are not eligible to request a leave of absence. Students applying for a leave of absence must submit a petition along with supporting documents explaining their reasons to the Dean’s Office within the first two weeks of the semester/year. However, if the reason for the leave of absence arises after this period, no deadline restriction will apply to the application.

In the Department of Foreign Language Education, there are two sections—A and B—at each class level. This arrangement applies to courses offered in multiple sections. Students whose student ID number ends in an odd digit are assigned to Section A, while those whose student ID number ends in an even digit are assigned to Section B. Students are required to enroll in courses offered in their assigned section. However, in cases of a valid justification, and provided that the course schedule allows, students may be permitted to enroll in a different section with the approval of both the course instructor and their academic advisor.

Students with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.50 and no failed courses from previous semesters with the letter grades FF, GR, DZ, or YZ may enroll in up to two courses from a higher year level, with a maximum total of 10 ECTS credits, provided that they obtain the approval of both the course instructor and their academic advisor. For students with a CGPA of 3.00 or higher, this limit is increased to up to three courses from a higher year level, with a maximum total of 15 ECTS credits.

Requests to take mandatory pedagogical field courses and foreign language teaching–specific subject area courses included in the eight-semester curriculum from other departments are not permitted. However, students may take EBB and GNK courses listed in the English Language Teaching Undergraduate Program, from sections offered by other departments, provided that they obtain the approval of the course instructor and their academic advisor, and that their course schedules are compatible.

Both compulsory and elective courses may be retaken for the purpose of grade improvement. If the elective course that the student wishes to retake for grade improvement is not offered in the current semester, the student may improve the grade by enrolling in a different course from the same elective course group.

Students may participate in double major or minor programs in other faculties, provided that the relevant faculties approve their applications.

Students may participate in the Erasmus'+, Farabi, and Mevlana exchange programs. Detailed information is available on the Istanbul Medeniyet University International Office website.

If courses are planned to be offered during the summer term at our faculty, the relevant information will be announced on the faculty’s website prior to the summer term. The articles in the Istanbul Medeniyet University Summer Education Directive regarding taking courses from summer schools outside our university are as follows:

Article 9 - (1) Students can take a maximum of four (4) courses from the courses offered in summer education. At the end of the spring semester, students with a weighted General Academic Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 and above can take a maximum of two (2) courses from the upper class in summer education, provided that they have taken and passed all the courses they need to take until the current semester.

(2) If the courses the student wants to enroll in are among the courses announced in the summer education, he/she cannot take these courses from the summer education of other universities. However, according to paragraph 2 of Article 8, the provision of this paragraph does not apply to the courses that are not among the courses announced by the Senate. In this case, courses that are not included in the announcement to be made by the Senate can be taken from the summer school of the universities where the program in which students are placed with a base score higher than the base score of the IMU program in the given year, provided that the faculty gives permission and the course content and weekly course hours are equivalent.

The steps to be followed to take courses from summer schools outside our university are as follows:

- Filling out the application form

- Receiving the approval of the advisor

- Receiving the approval of the department

The article regarding graduation requirements is as follows:

Article 32 - (1) A student who successfully completes all courses of their registered program, fulfills all obligations related to the program, has completed at least 240 ECTS credits for four-year undergraduate programs or at least 300 ECTS credits for five-year undergraduate programs, has no failing grade (FF), and has a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher is eligible for graduation.

The graduates of the program can work as English teachers in all primary and secondary schools in which English is taught as first or second language. They can work as research assistants, lecturers, and experts in public and private universities. They can also work in several fields of the private sector having commercial cooperation with countries all around the world. They can work in various areas of tourism as well as in media and communication orientated institutions.
